Cycling

In recent years, Clyde has transformed into a major gateway for cycling tourism in Central Otago. This shift began with the creation of the Otago Central Rail Trail, which starts nearby and has become a celebrated route for cyclists from around the world.

The rail trail follows the path of the former railway line, which once connected Clyde with Dunedin, winding through stunning landscapes and allowing riders to experience the natural beauty and heritage sites of the region. As word of the trail spread, it encouraged investment in tourism infrastructure, turning Clyde into a cycle-friendly town equipped with bike rental services, shuttle operators, and cosy accommodations for travellers.

Today, Clyde continues to develop as a cyclist-friendly town, offering a range of services to make visitors’ journeys smoother and more enjoyable. From boutique cafes and craft breweries to bike repair stations and guided tours, Clyde has embraced its role as a cycling hub. This transformation has not only reinvigorated the local economy but also preserved the town’s historic charm, blending its rich past with its active present. With three major trails converging here, Clyde has grown into a destination that draws cycling enthusiasts eager to experience the beauty of Central Otago.
